METO Treaty Writing Workshop

On Monday, 20th December, METO’s very own Dr. Leonardo Bandarra hosted an educational workshop on Treaty writing and the METO Draft Treaty for members of our University Network and alumni of our Summer Course. Participants learnt about the who, what, why and how of Treaties, the norms and rules which surround them, and their importance in International Law.

We began with an overview of the 1969 Vienna Convention, before looking into the process of Treaty writing and the different classifications of Treaties. With this newfound knowledge, we were able to discuss our Draft Treaty 4, evaluating its language, aims and structure.

Many of the workshop’s attendees aspire to pursue a career in diplomacy, international law, NGOs or international organisations. The opportunity to learn more about Treaties, which are key in these fields, is one that we are incredibly grateful for.
